I had a hard time with the subject matter and the manner in which some things were portrayed. Adultery, no matter the reason, is not something I condone. Both of these were predominant in the book and I really needed to put my personal feelings aside while reading it. This is the story of Alexandra and Jeremy. Blake and Dr. He had so many names for her that I did have to stop and think every now and then to make sure he was talking to or about her.
But, anyway….. She married and had two beautiful children and got her PhD in Psychology.
Destined to Play
He went on to become a very famous and influential doctor doing major research in depression. Since they were both going to be in Sydney, they decided to meet for a drink to talk about old times. What transpired was not something that Alexandra had every imagined would happen to her. First, he took away her sight….. Had her promise to spend 48 hours with him, blind. Then he demanded that she not ask any questions.
If she did, there would be penalties. Next came taking away her speech and hearing; leaving her with only the sense of touch. No regard for her feelings — just pushing her limits until she broke. Is it something that she wanted, yes, eventually, it was something that she wanted deep inside.
But, to this extreme? Cheating on her husband? Even if it was a sexless marriage, there was little regard for what she was doing to him or her children.
Jeremy proclaimed his love for her and admitted his mistake in letting her leave his life. She eventually found out that her spouse thought that he may be homosexual and it was a relief to them both to have everything out in the open.
Putting aside the subject matter of the book, I have to commend Indigo Bloome on the writing of this story. It was exquisitely written and kept you guessing as to what Jeremy was going to do next to bring Alexa to her knees.
I enjoyed the flashbacks to when they were in school together and how their love came to be. Bloome for trying to bring this to the attention of her readers. So, putting aside the adultery and the extreme sensory deprivation, I was enthralled with the book and do look forward to the next installment to see what happens……so, who do you think kidnaps Alexa?
Aug 11, Oyeah rated it did not like it Recommends it for: No one. I read a lot. I read fifty shades because of the hype and loved it for its pure escapism. Have read the trilogy twice. I devoured those books reading the first in a day. I love that experience when a book is so good you can't walk away from the characters. This book by indigo Bloom is so hard to read.
I feel nothing for the characters and find them both ridiculous and rather annoying. I I read a lot. I find myself reading it because I paid for it rather than because I care about what will happen next. The premis of the story could have been erotic and sensual and even thrilling, but it just isn't! I'm dissaopinted because the story line holds such promise.
I will struggle to the end of the book as I have about 40 pages to go but It isn't a pleasure to read and I am reading another excellent Lee Child book in between to break the boredom. Personajes planos con una historia igual de plana.
No tiene nada que valga la pena. Ni para burlarse sirve. Jan 09, Giovanna Lubrano Lavadera rated it did not like it. Incontri Proibiti Da dove cominciare? Totalmente allibita e per niente intenzionata a leggere il seguito, sono rimasta nauseata da questo libro, spero che ci pensiate due volte prima di comprarlo. Dec 15, Gizem rated it it was ok. It is a book about a woman who is persuaded by her former lover to let go of her sexual inhibitions over the course of a weekend and start a journey of self-discovery.

Enter Jeremy, Alexandra's former lover from her youth, who proposes that they meet in Sydney one weekend, while Alexandra's husband and children are away on a survival course in the Tasmanian wilderness. After recalling some of the details of some of their wild sexual encounters, Alexandra is easily seduced by Jeremy.
Then he makes a shocking proposal. Jeremy wants Alexandra to surrender her eyesight and become totally dependent on him in every sense for the next forty-eight hours When I received the review copy of Destined to Play I had no idea what to expect or what the book would be like. It was for this reason that I was quite eager to read the book. I was not disappointed.

As a reader, what kept me hooked was not the graphic depictions of sex, but the suspenseful element of the book. As Alexandra spent most of the novel blindfolded and unaware of her surroundings without giving too much away, I will reveal that Jeremy tricks her on a couple of occasions, I was pulled in as I tried to figure out where she might be and what was happening to her.
It was this--and some of the very imaginative results--that kept me wanting to turn the next page and learn more. There were a few things about the story that bothered me--in particular I would have liked it if in the early parts of the novel if the author had of shown Alexandra to feel some degree of guilt in the early part of the novel and wonder how her decision to meet Jeremy again might impact on her relationship with her husband and children.
Overall though, it is an interesting concept for an erotic novel and the cliffhanger ending left me wanting to know more--which is ideal considering that Destined to Play is the first in a three part series known as the Avalon trilogy. The sequels, Destined to Feel and Destined to Fly will be released later this year. Destined to Play is a sexy, fast paced novel that will no doubt enjoy some mainstream success while women's erotica sorry, I just can't bring myself to type Mummy Porn, remains topical.
Mar 29, Erica added it. Destined to Play was one of the most bizarre books I've ever read. It was definitely a daring debut and while in some ways it paid off, I was left a little unsettled in others. Destined to Play presents the perfect opportunity - 48 hours to just sit back and experience the things you have repressed in your life which is curious to say the least.
The whole role of medicine and research in Destined to Play was intriguing. I will say there were a few aspects where I definitely had to suspend disbeli Destined to Play was one of the most bizarre books I've ever read. I will say there were a few aspects where I definitely had to suspend disbelief. Indigo Bloome poses a really interesting question about the nature of if a cure will actually be developed for something like depression since there is so much money in the medicine for it.
Where Destined to Play was a bit less of a winner for me was in regards to some of Jeremy's actions. There is so many secrets going on and the choices are never really presented to Alexandra after the initial decision to spend the weekend with him. It bothered me a bit. I also am not crazy about the whole nature that Alexandra is cheating on her husband throughout this. While it did say that Alexandra and her husband don't really have a sexual relationship anymore, it sill rather bothered me.
Yet, as I got more invested in the book, that seemed to fade in comparison to the rest of the plot. Destined to Play is very well written. The end of the novel adds intrigue and espionage to the package and the book ends on a cliffhanger. While this one wasn't a complete win for me, I still would like to read on and see how the story will play out. Feb 21, Esra rated it liked it. Merak etmedim desem yalan olur Jul 18, Amy rated it did not like it. Feb 10, Squallogal rated it did not like it Shelves: I have been asked to read this series.
It should be my thing. It's not. I love that it's set in Australia so few steamy fictions are but that's all I like. Cheating isn't erotic. Forcing blindness isn't a turn on and there is nothing about either character that I find appealing.
With two more books to go I'm wishing for a reprieve I know will not come. Reading homework can be pleasurable. This is not. Aug 31, William Bentrim rated it liked it. It abounds with salacious behavior and submission of will. This book was an interesting read and if this is what women normally read it is a wonder there are not more rampant assaults on the shirtless men who are normally on the covers. Cotton candy came to mind while reading this book. It strives to have substance but fails to deliver.
However since I like cotton candy, I did enjoy the book. I have mixed emotions about that because I am delighted it is selling so well and dismayed that it is addressing an obvious need. My biggest dismay with this book is the theme of dominance. The supposition that women as a gender have a hidden desire to be dominated offends me.
My education and experience as a counselor provided me with too many instances where subservient behavior led to abuse. Perhaps I have been fortunate to have my primary female relationships be with strong women but I find it hard to believe that any woman, unless she is categorized as disturbed, would willingly submit to being dominated in the manner described in this book. I can accept that there are women who would willingly participate in the interesting actions in the book but by choice not by coercion.
Suggesting that sexual submission is the key to curing depression literally elicited a major guffaw due to the ludicrous nature of that proposal. I take issue with many of the premises of the book but I strongly suspect that the appetite for acceptable sexual entertainment will engender profitable sales.

A woman. Alex Blake, is asked to surrender her sight and the ability to ask questions for 48 hours and is promised a weekend she will recall for her entire life. Jeremy Quinn They were connected somehow, on the same level. She trusts him. But when he asks her to trust him for 48 hour 4 Stars!!! But when he asks her to trust him for 48 hours What happens is sensual treats and pleasurable activity which starts ramping up into adrenalin pumping activity Slowly Jeremy uncovers what he wants from Alex What does sensory deprivation effect your body?
When you can't speak, move, see, or hear and all you have is the sense of touch But what did Alex really get herself involved with? By whom? What the heck is going on? This was some story, although not for everyone. The novel is full of quotes which relate to life and the choices we make which dictate the quality of that life. For example: This is a book about the psychological side of desire and lust.
It captured my attention and I will read more in this trilogy to see what happens next. Nov 22, Sarah Ashley rated it it was ok. Purchased from W H Smith after seeing a large poster in their window, along the lines of if you liked FSOG you'll love this, trouble is the poster showed an image of book two of the trilogy and it was only when I went into the store and found "Destined to Feel" I established that "Destined to Play" is the first in the series, so as they had an offer on I purchased this and the second book at half price.
Like other reviewers have already identified the book is slow compared to FSOG trilogy and Bar Purchased from W H Smith after seeing a large poster in their window, along the lines of if you liked FSOG you'll love this, trouble is the poster showed an image of book two of the trilogy and it was only when I went into the store and found "Destined to Feel" I established that "Destined to Play" is the first in the series, so as they had an offer on I purchased this and the second book at half price.
At one point I actually felt like giving up with Destined to Play but kept on reading. Where as FSOG and the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day are far fetched, but may possibly be real and I suppose could happen to a lucky girl, maybe already has, I found Indigo Bloome's novel totally unrealistic - who in their right mind allow themselves to be held captive and worst still allow their sight to be taken using drugs although she was aware it was for 24 hours at a time , the main female, Alex or Alexa character is depicted as a very well educated woman who is apparently well respected in her field, the main male character would surely be locked up and the key thrown away if he was caught.
I found it disturbing in places, and I'm no prude believe me. I'll read the second, or at least start it, just because I've already purchased it. I got bought this book for Christmas and finally got round to reading it on the train to university.
At first I really didn't like the first person style of writing but managed to get over it as the book got going. There is adultery in this book which was a big negative and the main character seemed to forget about her husband and kids very quickly when the 'action' started which was a bit worrying. The overall plot for this book started off really believable and despite the infidelity I was start I got bought this book for Christmas and finally got round to reading it on the train to university.
The overall plot for this book started off really believable and despite the infidelity I was starting to enjoy reading it, but this enjoyment was slightly short lived as towards the end of the book it started to become slightly far-fetched and I felt rushed.
Overall, I feel it is quite a good read and seen as though I received the 2nd book for Christmas also I will continue reading this series.. I just hope it returns to a more believable story line! One thing I can really say I loved was the way that she kept having flash backs as these gave a deeper insight into the main characters relationship, making the speed that the romance developed and trust she showed more realistic.
Oh and I liked the quotes at the start of the chapters as it added a little extra to the book. Aug 13, Kim rated it did not like it Shelves: I don't even know. I have no words. I wish there was a way to rate it less than 1 star. I really hate giving bad reviews, because the author took the time to write this thing..
I have to review it, because that's what I do, I read then review, and I read this for a challenge, I needed a I letter authors name and I can't take back the hour it took me to read this. I wish I could take it back, I honestly do. I don't even know what I read, or what was going on.. Jul 30, Nicole Campbell rated it did not like it. What a load of rubbish this book was. I can't actually believe that it was published. I must give credit to the marketing deparmetnt though, they were very clever cashing in on the success of the Fifty Shades series.
This book doesn't even come close to Fifty Shades. I have never read anything more boring or ridiculous in all my life. In fact I ended up skipping most of the last pages because the story was so unbelievable. I don't know what the author was thinking when she created the characte What a load of rubbish this book was. I don't know what the author was thinking when she created the characters. Any mother who would so easily jump at the chance of spending the weekend with her ex-boyfriend and consenting to the activities he had planned certainly doesn't have any feelings for her family.
Perhaps there are people in the real world like this, but I have never met any. Don't waste your time or your money on this book, it really isn't worth it. Sep 06, Konni Doolan rated it did not like it. It started out ok I suppose then it just got ridiclous, then even more ridiculous. Alexa had no safeword to opt out? Who the hell in their right mind would submitt to doing something like that without anyway of telling then you wanted them to stop? All out of love? Then come to find it was all part of an experiment?
For a man she loved while in University? I can't believe this was compared to 50 Shades of Grey, my god they couldn't be further apart. Jul 29, Coriann rated it did not like it Shelves: Well the only decent thing i have to say about this book is the flash back scenes. I wanted to stab the male lead at a few points, the female lead say she trust but no where in the book does he ever do anything that is trust worthy not even in the flash backs.
He comes off as a complete slimy bastard. The female lead comes off as a naive idiot for placing absolute trust in said slimy bastard. The Writer fails to make them feel real, totally one denominational. I read 50 shades of Grey and while Well the only decent thing i have to say about this book is the flash back scenes.
