Filter by: Bayesian Reasoning and Machine Learning. This introductory text on Bayesian machine learning is one of the most well-known on the topic as far as I am aware, and happens to have a free online version available.
The book has wide coverage of probabilistic machine learning, including discrete graphical models, Markov decision processes, latent variable models, Gaussian process, stochastic and deterministic inference, among others.
5 EBooks to Read Before Getting into A Machine Learning Career
The material is excellent for advanced undergraduate or introductory graduate course in graphical models, or probabilistic machine learning. The exposition throughout the book uses numerous diagrams and examples, and the book comes with an extensive software toolbox It should be noted that the toolbox being referred to is implemented in MATLAB, which is no longer the default machine learning implementation language, at least not generally.
The toolbox is not the book's only virtue, however. This is the soon-to-be-released-in-print deep learning book by Goodfellow, Bengio and Courville, which has a freely-available final draft copy on its official website.

The following 2 excerpts are from the book's website, one providing an overview of its contents, the other putting almost everyone interested in reading the book at ease:. The Deep Learning textbook is a resource intended to help students and practitioners enter the field of machine learning in general and deep learning in particular.
The online version of the book is now complete and will remain available online for free. The print version will be available for sale soon.
The other target audience is software engineers who do not have a machine learning or statistics background, but want to rapidly acquire one and begin using deep learning in their product or platform. Reinforcement Learning: An Introduction. Sutton and Barto's authoritative classic is getting a makeover. This is a link to the second draft, which is currently in progress and freely-available while it is.

Reinforcement learning is of incredible research interest these days, and for good reason. Given its recent high-profile success as part of AlphaGo, its potential in self-driving cars and similar systems, and its marriage with deep learning, there is little reason to believe that reinforcement learning, which is undoubtedly to play a major role in any form of "General AI" or anything resembling it , is going anywhere. Indeed, these are all reasons that a second draft of this book is in the works.
You can get a sense of the importance of this book in the field of reinforcement learning given that it is referred to simply as "Sutton and Barto. Sometime later, draw a clockwise spiral and do the pushups. One enhances strenghth one dimminishes. This book is nothing short of amazing. The devices work Get a copy and blow your own mind!
A really interesting look at some anomalous devices. All seem to work at least some of the time, but none of them should work at all.
This should invite the truly scientific mind to investigate these anomalies. Perhaps someday we will understand why a machine that consists entirely of a schematic drawing of a circuit, or even the version made with an actual circuit that is interrupted by a plastic prism, can sometimes be used to detect materials.
However, the book is horribly overpriced in the secondary market. Strange Machines You Can Build , is available for considerably less. A key resource for anyone with an open mind and a curious spirit. Interesting ideas in book,.
This book represents plans and 'machines' the author made himself, following plans from other inventors and experimenters. He mentions other curious machines and theories, but, unfortunately for all of us, did not include any of those, as he felt they were 'unverified' by him. It would have been an interesting trail to follow if he would have. Of course, for all of us tinkerers, how would it have been if Tesla had left simpler plans for us too?
The ideas and machines in this book date from the 's. Even one of the 'battery-powered' ones does not need any batteries to work- just a schematic sketch of one! Strange but true. Books like this have been around since I was a teen and I always saw them advertised in the back of magazines in the library. I remember discussing it with someone I grew up with who had also seen these books advertised. So, for their birthday I purchased this book as a joke.
He and I actually built a simple little device that is supposed to move when you stare at it. In other words - your mind moves it. The bloody thing worked!!! Go figure! I never believed in any of this stuff before. So we sealed the device under glass so that air movement could not effect it.
Again, go figure. This book is full of fun little devices that will indeed challenge your sense of reality a bit, unless you alread believe in these things. It will then confirm your sense of reality I suppose. A very good book, it keeps the mind sharp and we can learn something new. Try some of the experiments, very unusual and you really dont have to believe in every thing but guess what it does work. I like it and am still experimenting.
